The Croak of Midnight

Oracle inches to the back of the party as the discussion with the two professors continue. The gnome argues that it isn't safe at night and that they will continue their work in the morning. The party, however, decides to keep going, because they were sent here by the Princess. The elf reveals their orders come from the King of the Falthra family, pointing to the insignia on their clothing. The insignia is of the magic school and that school is allied with the Falthras. The king ordered the pair to research the scale with the goal of creating a spell to neutralize it.

 

Remedy sees that Spitha is unwell and determines the cause is the attack from the Slaad in the fight. It removes the Slaad parasite/baby from the wound and she is cured.

 

The party sets up camp on the nearest edge of the scale, and they experiment with it. Regular water is absorbed into the scale, but the cursed water does not react. Makani asks Eurus to shave off a bit of the scale, but the sword refuses to stab a god.

 

After camp is set up, the party notices too late that the drop of cursed water has turned into a hostile water elemental.

 

During the fight, Makani is absorbed into the elemental and is completely marbled, including her hair. Oracle's arm also becomes marbled from pulling her out. She then lands the final blow on it. Notably, the water marbling affects only bare skin and not tattoos.

 

The party goes to sleep in their camp, except for Remedy who keeps watch all night and Makani who sleeps in a tree.

 

Oracle's watch: Lots of frog noises. Fire is doused. Silence. Oracle does not know much about Warforged, Remedy has not read much on its kind.

  • Oracle rolls for Light Sleeper (the higher the roll, the more asleep): 12. not waking up
    • On a scale form 1 to 20, Oracle sleeps with 12 heaviness
  • Remedy instructs Makani to throw a ration southwest 45ft, lands with thunk, loud croak, there’s stomping over to the ration
  • Don’t see much (darkvisionless), hear sniffing and a lot of croaking, then silence for a minute, then another croak 45ft away ish

  • Makani signals to Remedy to wake up Oracle
  • The croaking is Remedy’s focus now; big thump as it sits down and croaks again
  • Makani insight checks croak, it doesn’t sound particularly angry or upset but also she’s never been less sure of a thought in her life
  • It croaks louder this time, not closer just being loud

  • Another croak, sniffing around but not getting up

  • Frog gets up and starts to slowly walk closer, sniffing

  • Now 300ft, croaks are faint but there are more of them

  • She is woken up by Makani “...frogs.” (explanation of frogs and be quiet)
  • “I’m gonna climb up to my tree, and I’m gonna fall asleep, and nothing is going to happen. Right?”
  • Spítha absorbed the word “quiet” and nothing more
  • She just sits there and tries her best to be quiet. She is not good at being quiet (she’s ‘tism rocking)
  • Perception: the frog that was fed is back 20ft away
